I'm beginning to upload some of the pieces I've done for my Concentration Portfolio. I was assigned to make 32 pieces of art.
-12 that complement the breadth of my ideas.
-7 that demonstrate quality in my work.
-12 that can be pieced together, or that are otherwise related to, each other. (So, pretty much, I'm making a series.)
The breadth assignment was simple enough. All I had to do was scour through some of my old pieces, and find a little multitude that demonstrated the variety throughout my work. Easy.
The quality was pretty easy, too. I found some of my favorite pieces, that showed some of my major talents, and how I was able to show different variations of artistic creation, and incorporate them into one great piece. Easy-ish.
Concentration, however, I'm finding to be a little difficult. For starters, I couldn't find anything to do it on! My work tends to be so sporadic, so different from one another. (Take a look at my gallery, you'll see.) So, naturally, taking the time to sit down and find one common purpose for 12 pieces of art, was tough. After a few days of barely thinking about it, I was fed up, and decided to make my concentration about, "Sharpie Art." The concept - things that are drawn with sharpies, or graffiti, etc. - was intriguing to me. And because of some of the places I like the most, where there's enough free expression to swing a stick at - I decided to have a sort of... inner city theme. Influenced by older, jazz music, older buildings, graffiti on random mortar, and the idea that through all of this old, broken heap - freedom of expression, and diversity, shines through.
It's almost a hard concept to grasp, but hopefully things will work out - and I'll be able to tie all of my art together.
Take a look at some of my pieces! There are currently 5 (today is 2/15/09, so there will be more soon,) out of 12 uploaded on my page. I'd appreciate some feed back!
